Sandra Taylor, President

I am a senior majoring in psychology here at UCCS.  I have lived in Colorado all my life and decided to attend UCCS because I knew what a wonderful place it is.  Already as a freshman, I was able to join a lab in the psychology department.  I have had the great pleasure of working with Dr. Benight doing research on trauma.  Dr. Benight has been a great mentor to me helping me to develop the skills I need to do research and reach my goals.  I will be working with Dr. Benight on my honors thesis as well as assisting on several other projects in the lab.  I hope to attend UCCS for my Master’s Degree and continue working with Dr. Benight for the next few years.  Eventually, I hope to do research on trauma and become a professor.  When I’m not working on my academics I enjoy reading, hiking, swing dancing, playing pool, and hanging out with my friends.

Tracie Schumacher, Vice President

Tracie Schumacher is a senior at UCCS, majoring in Psychology, minoring in Sports Health and Wellness, and taking Pre-Medicine pre-requisite classes.  She is fascinated with all aspects of psychology, especially neurophysiology and biopsychology.  She spent the first 21 years of her life in Central California, where she studied dance, videography, and audio engineering.  In 2007, she enlisted in the United States Air Force and began her career as a GPS satellite operator, relocating to Colorado Springs.  Her first psychology class made a lasting impact on her and sparked her interest in biopsychology.  This inspired her to return to school full-time, focusing on the connection between the body and mind and its contribution to a preventative holistic health model tying together mental health, physical health, and nutrition.  She hopes to go on to medical school and specialize in psychiatry or neurology while continuing to serve in the Air Force.  She is currently volunteering at Memorial Hospital in the ortho/neuro and renal medicine wings.  In her spare time, she enjoys running, traveling, yoga, and spending time with her husband and two dogs.
